Details
The three-day gorilla trek safaris will take you to Uganda's famed rain-forest, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is situated in the country's southwestern corner. The forest is renowned to preserve half of the world's surviving mountain gorillas, making it an exceptional place for trekking these incredible creatures. There are also additional activities such as nature walks, community walks, bird viewing for birders, and many more.
Early in the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your Kampala hotel to begin your journey to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, which is home to half of the world's endangered mountain gorillas.
The drive from Kampala to Bwindi takes 8 hours, so you will have several stops along the way, including a stop at the equator to take pictures and grab a few refreshments, as well as African crafts, which you can obtain from local craft shops before hitting the road again.
The next stop will be at Mbarara town, where you will have lunch. The guide will take you to one of the town's tourist restaurants for lunch, where you may choose between local and continental fare. After lunch, resume your drive, this time to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and your lodge, where you will check in for supper and an overnight stay.
Your butler will ensure that you are ready to go by 7:00 a.m. with a packed lunch, appropriate hiking equipment, drinking water, and a walking stick. The briefing for the Uganda gorilla trekking expedition begins at 7:30 a.m. in the visitor's center.
8:00 a.m.: Your tracking guide and two rangers armed with guns will drive you and six other visitors into the jungle in search of a habituated gorilla troop. Time spent chasing gorillas is relative, but once found, you may view them from a 10-meter distance for roughly an hour. If you book a gorilla habituation permit, you may view the gorillas for roughly four hours.
Your time in the forest cannot be predicted since each day is unique. Most hikers, however, are out of the bush by 2:00 p.m. with a satisfied smile.
After an early breakfast, go on a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi, where you will visit many islands while learning about the lake and the history of the people who live there. Return to the hotel, pack your belongings, and then depart for Kampala, with a halt at the Igongo Cultural facility for lunch and a mini-tour of the facility to learn more about Ankole culture. Then travel to Kampala, either to your hotel or to the airport if you need to catch a flight back.
